“Good news, indeed. We eagerly await your arrival.” Braecen turned to Yzarc and allowed a large grin to cover half his face. “Phoenix brings not only his Clan, but the alliance of Arcona as well. We shall prevail after all. Tell the troops not to engage the enemy. Retreat, and only fire when fired upon.”

“Roger that Consul. Relaying message to all forward commands.”

Space over Kapsina

Approximately 6 hours later

As the massive combined fleet dropped from hyperspace, the respective Captains and Consuls fully expected to come into contact with an enormous Yuuzhan Vong fleet, perhaps even a World Mind or two. What they saw was laughable at best. There was only one Miid ro'ik, one Matalok and a slaveship. The intruders obviously believed Plagueis to be easy pickings.

Phoenix immediately radioed down to the planet surface, the anger welling up inside him that he took his entire fleet and a good portion of his army into a battle that Plagueis should have been able to handle on their own. Throw in the encounter with Arcona and the inevitable damage it caused to the Scholae fleet, and the Firrerreon could barely control his anger.

Braecen had a grin on his face that Phoenix saw as a slap to his own countenance. “You called us in here for this? This measly excuse for an occupation force? I’ve half a mind to turn right around and leave you to your fate. Come to think of it, that’s EXACTLY what I’m going to do.” Turning to his navigation officer, he issued the command. “Turn this fleet around and head back for Judecca. Consul Kaeth can rot for all I care.”

Just as he finished his sentence, Lucien tapped him on the shoulder and pointed out the main window. A Kor Chokk had dropped out of hyperdrive and was quickly deploying Coralskippers. The invasion force had tripled in size in less than 10 seconds. Phoenix simply stood and stared out the window at the turn of events. His anger quickly gave way to anxiety. This was a force that could quite possibly extinguish the entire combined fleet. As the Consul’s head turned to face Lucien, the Grand Marshal knew what he had to do. This was no time to flee. Honor and glory would be had here, on this day.

Black Aces Squadron

Ace One

Still grieving the loss of two great pilots, The Black Ace Squadron was once again tossing into the fires of hell. Swarms of Arconan Fighters mixed with those of Clan Plagueis and the living vessels of the Yuuzhan Vong. It was an unorganized free for all. Three Clans swarmed against the united Vong Force. The Marshal was reluctant to issue the order to engage enemy vessels; he’d just as soon let the Arconan force charge head first into their deaths.

Finally, the Flight Leader issued his orders. The Black Aces were to hunt in teams and extinguish the Vong with extreme prejudice. The remaining vessels broke formation, dancing across the stars towards the buzzing Coralskippers.

“Stay away from those Cap ships, Aces. Happy Hunting.”

Imperial Star Destroyer Mk. II ‘The Baron’

Command Deck

The Executive Officer barked orders to the hordes of enlisted men, adjusting the trim and vector of the vessel’s course. Now running parallel to the Miid ro’ik cruiser, the crew of The Baron rushed to open fire upon the vessel. Like two ancient wooden ships hoping to sink the other without incurring crippling damage themselves, the two starships began to slug it out. The Vong’s yaret-kor spat streams of molten rock at the Plagueis flag-ship, scoring the shields of the Imperial Star Destroyer.

The Vong’s destroyer analog crept closer, looking to unleash its hidden super-weapon. If it were not for the skilled work of the men and women aboard the bridge of The Baron, their vessel wouldn’t have held up this long. With each impact of the yaret-kor projectiles, the hull of the Star Destroyer fluoresced, sending showers of embers into the dark of space. The ovoid Yuuzhan Vong vessel rolled, exposing the gnashing teeth of the worm-like Dread Weapon lodged in the belly of the ship.

It strained to reach the hull of the Star Destroyer, flailing violently as it tried to latch on. The command finally recognized that defeat was imminent, unless the Forces of Scholae Palatinae interfered. The Miid ro’ik needed to come only meters closer for the worm-like dread weapon to latch on to the Star Destroyer.

Kieran laughed out loud. The Consul of Scholae Palatinae had trusted his safe departure to Cethgus, who now lay incapacitated on the floor. Damn fools. Do they think Soulfire will vanish that easily? Cethgus wasn’t a problem for the troopers, waiting for the right moment to open fire was. He was outnumbered, and they were well trained. With his back turned, the Dark Jedi stunned Cethgus.

Six gunners and technicians protected the array. The perfect number of spots for the elite strike-team. They were busy firing away.

Let them do their jobs…For now. Malidir suggested to Kieran.

The Sergeant concurred; it was not the moment to strike.

Admiral Ail’en Sommetra screamed at her crew of greenhorn Ensigns and inexperienced Lieutenants. It was imperative that her ship cut off the Miid ro’ik assault on the ISD The Baron, and they were not getting the job done in a timely manner. The Emperor stood, as if to interject a command at any moment, but he was wiser than that. It wasn’t often that someone told him to “sit down and shut up” and lived to see another day. However, something about the Admiral entranced him, he couldn’t help but listen to her. Phoenix watched in admiration as the woman took charge of the entire battlefield, dictating and controlling each pivotal step in the plan to repel the Vong.

Come to bearing 282! Speed, ahead full! Adjust trim. 4 degrees down angle! Balls to the walls, Gentlemen.

As the Excidium changed course, aiming to slice through the Vong warship’s path, Sommetra put out an important call. The Excidium would not be able to engage and successfully combat the vermicular Dread Weapon alone. For that she needed someone skilled enough and damn foolish to lead the charge; Thran Occasus and the Black Aces.

If the Destroyer could get close enough to distract the Vong, the blood-thirsty pilots of Occasus’ prized squadron would make mince meat out of their target.

Damage Report! Mejas screamed.

“All systems functional, Sir. Just a power flux.” Replied the nearest officer.

Mejas Doto, Zabrak Consul of Arcona, was known for his machinations and secret plots. He’d taken his command ship up against the Matalok. Word through out the galaxy was that these vessels could be easily dispatched, as they tended to fair miserably against proton torpedoes. The Eye of the Abyss had crippled its opponent, creating a fissure along the midline of the vessel. A few more minutes and the Arconan fleet could move on to bigger objectives.

Dash stepped forward, tired of the ineptitude that his officers were displaying.

“Coordinate all vessels. Launch every war-head we have! I want that ship destroyed!”

The hordes of minions on the command deck made it so. Mejas watched with a smile as the crack in the coral covering of the Matalok cruiser slowly widened. Finally, the coup-de-grace, 14 torpedoes sequentially impacted the Vong vessel, ripping the remains of the bioship into pieces. The Yoret-kor cannons finally stopped spraying their salvo of molten rock; The Matalok had died.

Cheers rang out across the Command Deck.

Kapsina Countryside

12 clicks Northeast of Plagueis Defenses:

Get that Armor moving Colonel! Plagueis needs us! Commanded the Field Marshal.

Like a herd of metallic pachyderms and iron buffalo, Scholae Palatinae’s armor marched towards the entrenched Forces of Plagueis. Rescue was their mission, but the reward of being able to kill more Vong enticed them even more. As the group of AT-ATs cleared a hill, the hordes of Yuuzhan Vong realized that they had been flanked.

Redirecting their gigantic bodies, the field Rahamat turned towards the inbound AT-ATs. Before the hulking behemoths could position, the order came.

All units, open fire. The Obelisk Field Marshal commanded.

Instantly, the AT-ATs opened fire. The air was filled with the sound of Heavy Lasers. It was a massacre. Bodies of Chazrach warriors flew through the air, crashing to the rocks under the massive beasts.

TIE Hunters from Scholae’s TIE Corps shrieked through the air, raining a barrage over the battlefield. It took only minutes to gain superiority over the battlefield. Angelo Dante smiled; this battle was like shooting fish in a barrel. The Vong had no escape route.

Yorik-et caused problems for the slower fighters in the engagement Zone. The TIE Defenders and TIE Avengers picked their victims from the sky like steel raptors. Fighters from Arcona and fighters from Plagueis aligned under one command. With each warhead impact, the Dread-weapon aboard the lone Miid Ro’ik crusier writhed in pain.

Two Scimitar Assault Bombers swooped in for the kill, releasing their payload dangerously close to the target. The explosion of the warhead was quite a sight. It sent fluids and Yuuzhan Vong soldiers spinning into space.

Crippled and dying, the living Warship let out a small screech as its innards spilled out into the vacuum of space. The tendrils along its midline went limp.

Consul Kaeth gritted his teeth, eager to see the Vong repelled from his planet. The forces of his former Clan had indeed come. They were late by his standards, but late was better than never. Braecen turned to Yzarc, nodding slightly to him. It was the order to terminate the remaining enemy forces.

TERMINATE THEM! Yzarc yelled with a firm conviction. Leave no survivors!

Watching the miniaturized holographic battlefield displayed in front of him, Braecen grew calmer as the avatars representing the Yuuzhan Vong force dwindled into nothingness. Plagueis’ forces pushed forward through the battlefield, pinching the enemy formation. Causalities were remarkably low.

The battle lasted only 7 hours, incredibly fast by most standards. The connections with the other Consuls had been limited, but now with the enemy eradicated, Braecen could connect with the other Consuls.

Get a communiqué to Phoenix. Plagueis claims victory Groundside.

Veiled under a dark robe, Mejas waited patiently for a report from his saboteurs. He had issued the order to reform the lines to his entire navy. The call finally came. A fuzzy holoprojection of the Templar Sergeant of the part Erinos Cabal, Soulfire Striketeam. The message was scrambled, but decoded with relative ease.

Consul, Kieran Kodiak Erinos here. We’re making our move. See you soon.

The image faded away. Time was of the essence.

So, the treachery is almost complete. Now, to inform Muz of the impending war between Plagueis and Scholae…

Dash grinned. He was pleased to send the prerecorded of warning to the Shadow Hand. Muz would summon the entire Brotherhood fleet, undoubtedly. As the communications officer sent the message, the Arconan Summit watched as the Flagship of Scholae Palatinae began to open fire…

Braecen’s likeness appeared before his protégé, who sat reclining in his chair, content with the thrill of a successful mission. The Holoprojection flickered until the signal was dialed in properly. When the signal had cleared, Phoenix found himself in a debacle.

Treacherous Swine! In time when we should align against a common foe, you find the gall to declare an open attack! Clan Plagueis will not stand for this deceit. You will be destroyed. I’ve forgotten the cardinal rule of being a Dark Jedi; Never Trust a Sith with an inferiority complex!

I ordered no such thing, Consul. It must have been a malfunction, those sorts of things happen after fighting long battles for other people. As I am sure came from your hard earned victory on the ground. I will get to the bottom of this immediately. Phoenix replied. His words oozed with sarcasm. The Emperor was most certainly not a diplomatic man.

Enough with your lies Palpatine! Today, I end your pitiful existence.

The transmission ended there, Braecen Kaeth was too outraged to speak. Phoenix and Braecen had a long relationship. Phoenix was his prodigy, his partner, and some dared to call him Braecen’s puppet. Upon receiving the message, Phoenix was confused. No such order was sent. Reviewing the display of the Forces, the Emperor noticed the peculiar distance of the Arcona Fleet. They were ready to jump out of the fray.

DAMN! Infernal Erinos! The Emperor roared. I will bury those Arconan dogs!

Flustered, and now unable to flee the system without returning fire, Phoenix issued to Order to destroy the entire Plagueis fleet. Off the stern of the Excidium II, The Majestic Class Cruiser Basilisk opened fire upon the Victory II Class Star Destroy Ballista. At that range, the Ballista would be an easy kill.

Just as Phoenix prepared to euthanize the limping Flagship of the Plagueis fleet, Admiral Ail’en Sommetra alerted the Emperor to a group of new arrivals. The entire Battle fleet of the Dark Brotherhood entered the system, descending upon the remains of the Kor Chokk Battleship. It had been dispatched by the united force only an Hour before. The Vong vessel lumbered through space, coughing its last breaths. The inbound armada sliced through the clumsy ship with ease. Still left in confusion from the Arconan deception, Grand Marshal Lucien Kaeth stood next to Phoenix looking in awe at the massive fleet the Brotherhood had assembled. They had arrived in time to see the Arconan Navy, before they left the system. Mejas had not counted on Muz being so timely with his actions, it broke his plan wide open.

Message from the Nightfall, Sir. It’s urgent. Squeaked a mousey Naval underling.

The image of Deputy Grand Master Muz Keibatsu Sadow appeared before the Summit.

All Combatants from Scholae Palatinae and Plagueis, stand down immediately or be destroyed.Arcona fleet, Remain in system until further instructed. Braecen, Phoenix, and Mejas…Report to the Nightfall immediately. Shuttles and Escorts are in-bound. Resistance is futile.
